This panel discussion address corruption risks and preventive measures in different types of natural resources, such as minerals, fisheries, oil and gas.
At a time when renewables are dependent on non-renewable resources, such as critical minerals for batteries, wind turbines and solar cell panels, the risk of corruption in the sector is increasing – especially in vulnerable jurisdictions. This year’s CPI (Corruption Perceptions Index) shows that many of the countries that control such resources also have a high corruption risk, which can undermine both climate goals and sustainable development.
How do we ensure that the transition to a low-emission society does not take place at the expense of responsible resource management and fair distribution?
Although each sector has its own distinct risk profiles, there are common systemic challenges. The panel will discuss these, and what instruments and institutional measures are needed to reduce vulnerability – both nationally and internationally.
